- The meaning of Tawakkul
- Linguistically: To rely upon something or someone
- In Islam: It is true dependence upon Allah, confidence in Him, whilst taking the necessary means.
Three must be present for Tawakkul to be correct:
| Truthfulness: Be truthful in your dependence upon Allah. | Confidence that Allah will fulfil what He has promised. | Taking the necessary lawful means |
- Longing: Loving to reach something which one desires.
- Dreading: A fear which leads to fleeing from the feared object, it is a fear paired with action.
- Submissiveness: Humbling oneself to the Greatness of Allah by submitting to his universal and legislative decree.
It is a must for the 'traveler to Allah', the Perfect and the Most High, to combine between fear and hope. It is not correct to over emphasize one of them and thus be destroyed. Fear and hope should both be present like the two wings of a bird.
