The Second Fundamental Principle:
Knowing the Religion of Islam, based on evidence. This (i.e. Islam) means submitting to Allah by way of Tawheed, surrendering one’s (full) obedience to Him, and absolving oneself from Shirk and its people. They are three levels: Islam, Imaan, and Ihsaan, each level consisting of its own pillars. The First Level: Islam (1). The pillars of Islam are five: The testimony that there is no deity that has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (2); Establishing the prayer; Giving the Zakaat; Fasting in Ramadhan; Performing Hajj to Allah’s Sacred House.
