The battle of Mu’tah occurred during the eighth year after hijrah because Sharahbeel ibn ‘Amr Al-Ghassāni murdered the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم envoy (messenger) on route to the king of Rome. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم then readied a force of three thousand men under the command of Zayd ibn Hārithahرضي الله عنه.The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “If Zayd falls in battle then Ja’far ibn Abi Tālib take charge however if he falls in battle then let ‘Abdullah ibn Rawāhah take chargeرضي الله عنه“.Heraclius King of Rome and those who allied with him from the Arabs set out with two hundred thousand men. The two forces met in battle and all those given command by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم were martyred, then the command was handed to Khālid ibn Al-Waleed رضي الله عنهhe lead the muslims well and they were able to retreat safely from their enemy and the enemy of Allah.
